ArtPrize 2013 - Agim Rudi receives Social Action Award

Today we embark on the official 2013 journey of ArtPrize in Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA. I am honored to have been chosen to exhibit my work at Fountain Street Church, an organization known for their work promoting social justice and civil rights. Last week this venue announced that I was the winner of their Social Action Prize and awarded me with a generous cash prize of $1,000 for my piece “The Scream”, which can be viewed here: http://www.artprize.org/agim-rudi

This award was judged by President of Kendall College of Art and Design, David Rosen, and Assistant Director of the Grand Valley State University Art Gallery, Cathy Marashi. The judges stated about my piece, “well-executed in charcoal, this powerful piece shows desolation and desperation that work its way into the strenuous lines and smudges”. When my son and daughter-in-law called me on Skype to tell me the good news, as they attended the event in my place, I told them

I am truly overwhelmed by this award. Recognition by the arts community in the United States like this has given me fuel to continue in my art with a new fervor and passion. I am so thankful for this honor and for the exposure my art will gain in this venue as over 18,000 viewers will visit my piece in the next three weeks. I hope my work will continue to impact the arts community in Michigan and speak to the viewers in meaningful ways.
